Going Greener in 2012

Everyday, I contemplate how I can lighten my carbon footprint.  For 2012, I am challenging myself with how I can be even more "green".  The following is a list of ways I am trying to be more eco-friendly to the planet.  I challenge you too!

1. Take mass transit to work meetings.
2. Buy milk from local dairy farm, Ronnybrook Farms.
3. Buy Preserve toothbrush made out of recycled yogurt cups.  Old toothbrush is also recyclable.
4. Grow a garden.
5. Use garden catalogs to wrap presents.
6. Compost all my organic kitchen scraps.
7. Recycle all my glass, plastic, cans, paper.
8. Take a beekeeping class to learn how to raise honeybees and make local honey!
9. Became a pescatarian / vegetarian.

  1. Kudos to you! You will find many sustainable options that will make your footprint matter. When shopping for planting material, be aware of avoiding invasive materials and of course, focusing on perennials is more sustainable than annuals. For more suggestions, please feel free to visit our website: www.vividbotanicals.com. We're looking forward to seeing your progress :)

    Happy Planting!

  2. Congratulations on taking these steps. Although I'm constantly trying to introduce new ways to minimize my own footprint, writing it out is a great idea and can help identify areas for improvement. I've been without a car for the past four years and have been amazingly happy without it. We are probably going to have to get one for a business we're starting, but I am glad to know that, for my own purposes, I can go without it. (This is saying a lot for a transplant from WI who learned to drive at 14, and got first speeding ticket a month after turning 16). Are you buying your milk direct, from a farmers market, grocery store or other? Just curious since our nearest store doesn't carry Ronnybrook. Thanks & again congrats!

  3. You can also learn to forage for the many common, renewable, tasty, healthful herbs, greens, berries, nuts, seeds, roots, and mushrooms that do especially well in urban and suburban habitats. For more info, check out http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com.
